About MER-G Lab

MER-G (read as /mɜː(r)dʒ/) Lab at Hanyang University is an interdisciplinary research group that is aimed at exploring the interaction processes between individuals and their surrounding social networks from which various macro-level outcomes emerge, such as persuasive communication, information diffusion, the formation of social norms, and public opinion dynamics, especially in the social media environment. Through experimentation, network analysis and computational modeling, the goal of MER-G is to advance our understanding of the micro-foundations of macro social behaviors -- the key psychological and network-structural conditions on which various collective patterns in communication emerge, persist or change.  

MER-G는 한양대학교 '네트워크 심리/집합행동 연구그룹'입니다. 동사 merge가 '합치다, 결합하다'를 의미하듯 MER-G는 소셜 미디어 환경에서 개인들이 주변 네트워크와 상호작용하는 과정과 그로부터 창발하는 집합적 현상(e.g., 정보확산, 설득커뮤니케이션, 규범형성, 여론동학)을 연구합니다. 다양한 실험, 네트워크 분석과 컴퓨테이셔널 연구방법을 통해 MER-G는 거시행동의 미시적 조건, 즉 소셜미디어와 같은 네트워크 환경에서 일어나는 다양한 집합적 사회 현상 기저의 사회심리적 상호작용과 네트워크 구조의 역할에 대한 체계적 이해를 목표로 합니다.
